Is it safe to upload documents online?

Is it safe to upload documents online? It depends on what happens to the file after the upload: where it’s stored, for how long, and who can reach it. From your side of the screen, you can’t see any of that. Dress Docs takes the question away. It redacts your document in your browser tab, so the file is never uploaded.

What happens to your file

When you open a document in Dress Docs, it’s read, shown, edited, and exported inside your browser tab. It isn’t uploaded at any step. On the Free plan, there’s no account to create. By default, the file is cleared when you close the tab.

Why it matters

A file that isn’t sent can’t be copied along the way. Your original stays on your device, next to the clean copy you export.

Check it yourself

You don’t have to take our word for it. Open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and redact a document. You’ll see the page load. You won’t see your document go anywhere. Dress Docs counts page visits with cookieless analytics, and your document is never part of that.

Then open the file you exported and try to select the text under a cover. There’s nothing there: the page is flattened, and the hidden metadata is gone.

Picking up later

On Pro, you can export your project and import it back into Dress Docs.

Redact, export, close the tab. Your document stayed with you the whole time.
